Countdown to 2030: Together against food waste

The 2023 event theme was Countdown to 2030 - Together against Food Waste, and featured a range of presentations, case studies and interactive panels from guest speakers and businesses who are actively involved in food waste prevention and measurement. The event was hosted by Suzanne Campbell - Writer and broadcaster on food and farming.  The 2023 agenda covered areas such as the the Food Waste Charter; the importance of measuring food waste; and identifying opportunities for targeted waste reduction across the supply chain.  This event was open to all those involved in the food supply chain network, policy making or new businesses interested in accessing a valuable network for information exchange on food waste prevention and reduction activities.

      • Be informed on the latest food waste prevention activities from guest speakers across policy and business;
      • Hear perspectives and join the discussion with representatives from five State Agencies currenting supporting the Food Waste Charter - Bord Bia, BIM, Enterprise Ireland, Fáilte Ireland and Teagasc will explain what they are doing to help businesses reduce food waste;
      • Share the experience of some Food Waste Charter members from bakery, prepared foods and retail sectors on the reality of measuring, setting a target-based action plan and reducing food waste in a business;
      • Contribute to the conversation on how reporting on food waste prevention can support disclosure under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting (CSR) Directive and get an update on the progress of implementing the National Food Waste Prevention Roadmap from DECC.

      Food Waste Charter

      The Food Waste Charter is a public expression of commitment to reduce food waste by businesses and organisations in Ireland. The Charter is a voluntary agreement to accelerate action to reach Ireland’s food waste reduction target waste in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 12.3. The Charter promotes a collective industry commitment to measure, reduce and report food waste along the food supply chain.
